New Natural Gas Discovery in Nile Delta Yields 50 MMcf/d Output

Cairo: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources recently announced a significant new natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta, with an estimated production capacity of approximately 50 million cubic feet per day. This discovery is a result of the successful drilling of the exploratory well, Nidoco N-2, situated in the West Abu Madi concession area in Kafr El-Sheikh, managed by Eni in collaboration with BP.According to State Information Service Egypt, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi highlighted the advanced directional drilling technology employed for the project, which was executed from onshore to target offshore reserves located in shallow waters. This strategic approach not only reduced costs but also enhanced operational efficiency.Minister Badawi emphasized that this discovery, along with the increased output from existing fields, showcases the sector's effective strategy in settling dues to foreign partners, with full repayment anticipated by the end of June. He noted tha t these regular payments have incentivized partners to broaden their exploration and drilling activities and have been supported by extended agreements to encourage investment.Additionally, the Minister pointed out the logistical advantage of the well's location, being less than 2 km from existing production facilities. This proximity is expected to facilitate a swift connection, allowing for early production within the forthcoming weeks. The discovery is anticipated to bolster domestic gas supply and enhance the utilization of existing infrastructure, highlighting Eni's ongoing success in Egypt's exploration sector.
