Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat engaged in discussions with Schneider Electric's Cluster President for the North East Africa and Levant region, Sebastian Riez, focusing on expanding an initiative to enhance energy efficiency within the industrial sector. The discussions also explored the potential for extending the initiative to other energy-intensive sectors due to its successful outcomes.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting included deliberations on broader collaboration in areas such as energy efficiency, electricity conservation, reduction of losses, adherence to quality standards in electrical services, and performance improvement within distribution networks. The Energy Efficiency Improvement Initiative, launched in May 2025, served as a practical model for conducting energy audits in various factories across different industries.
Esmat instructed that the initiative be broadened to encompass all industrial sectors, noting that energy savings achieved in participating facilities ranged from 9% to 22% due to the efficiency measures implemented. The discussions also highlighted the necessity of raising awareness through structured programs and enhancing the capabilities of factories and their workforce through specialized training.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed updates on the development plan for control centers within distribution companies and a project by the Middle Egypt Electricity Distribution Company aimed at boosting efficiency and service quality. The minister stressed the importance of ongoing coordination with stakeholders and the adoption of advanced technologies in partnership with private sector entities to ensure the high-quality delivery of electricity services.
