Cairo: A high-level Russian delegation has paid a visit to the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), within the framework of enhancing scientific and technical partnership between Egypt and Russia.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Russian Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev led the Russian delegation during the visit that meant to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in marine sciences and maritime innovation, as stated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
NIOF Head Abeer Moneir expressed her appreciation for the visiting Russian delegation and highlighted the depth of longstanding scientific and historical relations between both sides. She highlighted the institute's approach toward expanding areas of research and applied cooperation, particularly in deep-sea exploration, advanced technology transfer, and the use of artificial intelligence applications to support aquaculture and protect the marine environment.
For his part, Patrushev expressed his appreciation for the institute's leading scientific role, stressing that Russia considers it a key strategic partner in Africa due to its distinguished scientific and research expertise, which qualifies it to contribute to joint projects in ocean sciences and maritime innovation development.
During the visit, extensive talks were held between both sides on ways to enhance cooperation across several strategic areas, including marine exploration, technology transfer and localization, artificial intelligence applications in environmental studies, and the development of fisheries projects to support sustainable food security efforts.
The visit underscores that Egyptian-Russian cooperation in marine sciences is moving toward a more integrated phase, combining established scientific expertise with modern technologies, thereby boosting innovation opportunities and supporting sustainable development goals in both countries.
Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa affirmed that the state is placing increasing emphasis on strengthening international partnerships with global scientific and research institutions to support technology transfer and localization, capacity building, and the development of scientific research fields. He noted that cooperation in marine sciences represents a strategic pathway supporting sustainable development and maximizing the utilization of natural resources.
