Cairo: The Irrigation Ministry has announced that the New Dairout Barrage project is nearly complete, with a 99.7% implementation rate. The project is set to enhance irrigation across 1.6 million feddans in five Upper Egypt governorates: Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Faiyum, and Giza. This initiative will introduce an advanced system for managing the flow of canals supplied by the barrage in these regions.According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam emphasized the significance of this project as part of the ministry's broader efforts to upgrade, rehabilitate, and maintain irrigation infrastructure throughout the nation. This is being executed under the "Second Generation of the Egyptian Water System 2.0" program. The new barrage system, which began operation on February 28, replaces the old structure and incorporates the latest technologies to ensure precise water control and distribution.In addition to the barrage, a monitoring system for water managem ent in Central Egypt has been established. Forty monitoring stations have been constructed for key barrages, intake points, and pumping stations along the Ibrahimiya Canal and Bahr Youssef, enhancing water management efficiency in the area.
