Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Sunday, May 3, 2026, underscored the key role of parliament and its human rights committee in drafting and developing national legislation related to human rights and public freedoms. During a meeting with MP Tarek Radwan, head of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, the minister highlighted the importance of strengthening consultation between the Supreme Human Rights Committee and the parliamentary committee to monitor the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy (NHRS) across all its axes, and to prepare the second five-year strategy for 2026-2031, in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty reaffirmed the committee's commitment to advancing Egypt's human rights framework in a comprehensive manner, aiming to enhance human rights and social justice for Egyptian citizens. He also reviewed Egypt's activities at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), noting the country's membership for the 2026-2028 period and emphasized ongoing coordination with the parliament to promote and protect human rights in Egypt.
