Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with the head of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, to discuss current cooperation and future development projects.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty stated that cooperation between Egypt and the bank has exceeded $8 billion by the end of 2025, covering sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, water, infrastructure, and finance. He highlighted Egypt's efforts to expand cooperation, including increasing investments and supporting areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and industrial development.
The meeting also reviewed support for the private sector through financing and technical assistance, along with continued work on projects such as the Benban solar park, electricity network upgrades, and transport development in Cairo and the New Capital. Both sides discussed cooperation in Africa through joint development projects and the possibility of building on Egypt's experience in implementing large-scale initiatives across the continent.
At the end of the meeting, two agreements were signed to fund technical studies for renewable energy-powered desalination plants, with plans to establish five facilities in four governorates to support water security.
