EgyptAir Welcomes First Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft as Part of Fleet Modernization Plan

Cairo: EgyptAir has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, marking a key milestone in the national carrier's strategy to modernize its fleet.

According to State Information Service Egypt, EgyptAir Holding Company and Boeing announced that the Egyptian flag carrier has received its first B737-8 MAX as part of a strategic leasing agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital covering 18 aircraft. This is the first 737 MAX to join EgyptAir's fleet.

'The longstanding relationship between EgyptAir and Boeing reflects a solid partnership built on mutual trust and continuous cooperation to support the airline's development and modernization plans,' EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman and CEO Captain Ahmed Adel said. He added that the introduction of the Boeing 737-8 MAX marks a pivotal step in EgyptAir's fleet renewal strategy, enhancing its ability to offer a more comfortable and distinguished travel experience while achieving greater operational efficiency.

Adel noted that the aircraft's advanced technology and lower environmental footprint support the company's vision for sustainable growth, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet connecting Egypt to destinations worldwide. The addition of 18 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, alongside 30 Boeing 737-800 aircraft already in service, will significantly improve efficiency. The new aircraft uses less fuel and reduces emissions by up to 20 percent compared to earlier models, according to Adel.

EgyptAir plans to deploy the new aircraft on short- and medium-haul routes as part of its ongoing fleet development programme, serving several regional and international destinations including Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, and Vienna. 'We are proud to support EgyptAir's growth journey through the delivery of our first B737-8 MAX aircraft. This milestone reflects the airline's strong commitment to fleet modernization and highlights the depth of our strategic partnership with Boeing. We remain dedicated to providing EgyptAir with modern aircraft that deliver high operational efficiency and elevate the passenger experience,' Barry Flannery, chief commercial officer at SMBC Aviation Capital, said.

Passengers onboard EgyptAir's 737 MAX aircraft will benefit from enhanced comfort through the Boeing Sky Interior, featuring advanced LED lighting, larger windows, and more spacious overhead storage bins. 'The delivery of EgyptAir's first 737 MAX marks an important step in achieving the airline's development goals and signals the beginning of a new chapter for the national carrier. The aircraft provides the efficiency, range, and comfort airlines need for growth. We are proud to welcome EgyptAir as a 737 MAX operator, reflecting a partnership spanning more than 60 years.' Anbessie Yitbarek, vice president of sales and marketing for Africa at Boeing Commercial Aeroplanes, noted.

A delegation from EgyptAir, led by Head of Planning at EgyptAir Holding Company Ayman Thabet, travelled to Boeing's facility in Seattle, United States, to receive the aircraft, where Boeing hosted a special ceremony to mark the occasion. EgyptAir is one of the largest and oldest operators of the Boeing 737 family in Africa, with operations dating back to 1975. In addition to the 737, the airline operates five Boeing 777s and eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
