Egypt and Russia Plan Enhanced Sports Collaboration

Cairo: Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil and Russian sporting and investment officials have engaged in discussions aimed at advancing bilateral partnerships and leveraging Russia's expertise in various sports, as part of Egypt's efforts to enhance international cooperation in the youth and sports sectors.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Nabil met with key figures including Alexander Vinokurov, President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation and Chairman of Marathon Investment Group, Filippov Marat, Secretary General of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports and Vice President of the Russian Olympic Committee, as well as businessman Yasseen Mansour. The meeting focused on mechanisms to bolster sports collaboration and initiate joint projects in youth and sports, promoting expertise exchange to advance the sports systems in both countries.

The discussions explored the potential for benefiting from Russian expertise in weightlifting and gymnastics, and the expansion of sports event organizations, particularly marathon races. Both parties agreed on the exchange of training camps across various sports, utilizing Russian expertise to qualify and train Egyptian coaches, especially in disciplines where Russia excels, aiming to enhance Egypt's athletic performance.

Minister Nabil emphasized Egypt's commitment to expanding cooperation with Russia, aiming to serve the development of the sports sector and improve competitiveness at both regional and international levels.
