Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty engaged in phone discussions with key Palestinian figures, including Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine; Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, the Palestinian Prime Minister; and Nickolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza. The talks focused on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, that the foreign minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining focus on fulfilling the requirements of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan. This includes deploying an international stabilization force, ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian aid, and initiating early recovery and reconstruction programs.
The spokesperson further detailed that the discussions highlighted the severe developments in the West Bank, marked by ongoing Israeli violations and intensified military operations. Repeated incursions into Palestinian cities and camps, expansion of settlement activities, and settler attacks on religious sites were identified as contributors to rising tensions that hinder de-escalation and the resumption of the political process.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast position on the Palestinian issue, affirming the nation's commitment to supporting peace efforts in the region.
