Egypt Intensifies Measures to Secure Pharmaceutical Supply Chains and Aid Gaza Patients

Cairo: Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir to discuss enhancing cooperation for ensuring the availability of medicines and medical supplies at a high quality and affordable cost. The meeting took place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, and focused on strategies to improve the logistics surrounding drug supply chains.

According to State Information Service Egypt, a key topic of discussion was the development of an integrated logistics system for transporting raw materials and finished pharmaceuticals efficiently. The ministers emphasized the importance of speeding up the shipping and distribution processes from ports to strategic warehouses across the nation, aligning with Egypt's broader goals to modernize supply chains.

The officials also considered how to utilize Egypt's advancements in land and maritime transport infrastructure to optimize supply operations. This includes reducing storage and transit times and safeguarding pharmaceutical products from environmental factors or delays that could affect their efficacy.

Furthermore, the talks addressed Egypt's ongoing support for Palestinians arriving through the Rafah border crossing. The Ministry of Transport is actively providing equipped buses to assist in the movement of patients' companions to designated hospitals in Egypt. This effort aims to facilitate access to medical treatment and underscores Egypt's ongoing humanitarian commitment to the Palestinian people.

The meeting underscores a coordinated governmental effort to bolster healthcare resilience while continuing to support regional humanitarian initiatives.
