Egypt Unveils Massive Ramesses II Statue Discovery in Sharqia

Sharqia: An Egyptian archaeological mission from the Supreme Council of Antiquities has uncovered a massive statue at Tell el-Faraeen in Sharqia Governorate, believed to depict Ramesses II.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the statue, missing its lower part, weighs approximately 5 to 6 tons and stands around 2.2 meters tall. The remaining features suggest that it was part of a triad statue group.

Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, stated that the discovery contributes significantly to understanding religious and royal activities in the eastern Nile Delta. It also sheds light on the historical practice of relocating and reusing statues during the New Kingdom period.

Initial studies indicate that the statue was likely moved in ancient times from the city of Per-Ramesses to the site, historically known as Imat, for reuse within a temple complex.
