Cairo: Cairo University announced that Mohamed Yasser, a final-year student in the Mechanical Design and Production Department at the Faculty of Engineering, has won the gold medal in the Charles T. Main Student Leadership Award, the highest international honor granted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for student leadership.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the award recognizes Yasser's leadership and contributions to advancing institutional and community work in engineering. The Charles T. Main Student Leadership Award is considered one of the prestigious global honors in engineering student leadership. Established in 1919, it is granted to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership abilities and create a lasting impact within their academic and professional communities over an extended period.
Yasser received the 2026 gold medal for his leadership in transforming the ASME student chapter at Cairo University. His achievements include establishing financial governance systems, achieving 400% operational growth, and implementing sustainable frameworks that impacted more than 2,100 students. He also strengthened integration with the society's professional chapter in Egypt.
President of Cairo University Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek expressed pride in this global achievement-the first of its kind at the African level since the award's inception-highlighting the university's leadership and standing among international educational institutions. He noted that Yasser's success reflects the excellence of Cairo University students and their ability to compete on the global stage.
