PM Emphasizes Revitalization of Historic Sayyida Aisha District

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli highlighted the significance of the ongoing development in the Sayyida Aisha district, a historical area with deep-rooted importance to Egyptians. He stated that the state’s efforts aim to rejuvenate the district, reflecting its historical value and stature.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouli’s remarks came during his recent inspection of the renovation efforts in the Sayyida Aisha area, part of a broader field tour that included the Fustat Hills Gardens project. Accompanied by Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber Khalil, Madbouli assessed the progress made in the district’s redevelopment.

Governor Khalil provided a briefing on the state’s re-development plans, which include the areas surrounding the Citadel and the mosques of Sultan Hassan and Al Rifa’i. The plans have led to the demolition of 60 residential buildings and 123 commercial properties, including 347 shops, clinics, and warehouses, along with 120 stalls belonging to the Cairo governorate and 133 properties in the Arab Yassar area.

Additionally, five blocks facing Salah Salem Street were removed, with compensation provided to all eligible residents and business owners. The public transport terminal, previously a microbus service station, has been relocated to a temporary spot behind the Sayyida Aisha Mosque, ensuring continued service for southern Cairo residents while clearing waste and debris.

The Armed Forces Engineering Authority is overseeing the implementation of the Salah Salem Alternative Corridor, a project spanning 2 square kilometers. To date, 1,200 square meters have been completed, with 800 square meters remaining. The Cairo governorate is also managing the removal of the Abageyah Bridge ramp toward Salah Salem Street.

All development work is being coordinated by the Engineering Authority and the Cairo governorate, focusing on the re-development of Arab Yassar, Sayyida Aisha, and the Salah Salem Alternative Corridor.
