Alexandria: The Alexandria Port Authority received on Thursday, April 30, 2026, a high-level Russian government delegation headed by Aide to the Russian President and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev and Aide to the Russian President Igor Levitin.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the delegation also included representatives from major Russian companies specializing in maritime transport, shipbuilding, and shipping lines, as part of an official visit to the Port. The delegation was welcomed by Deputy Transport Minister for Maritime Transport Nihad Shaheen and Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority Ihab Salah, accompanied by senior port officials.

The visit highlighted the deep Egyptian-Russian relations and the commitment of both sides to enhancing areas of mutual cooperation. During the visit, a session of talks was held to review Alexandria Port's operational and logistical capabilities, its participation in regional and international projects, and its potential role as a major hub for trade between Africa and the rest of the world. Discussions also covered opportunities for cooperation in commercial maritime transport, knowledge exchange, and supply chain support to achieve port integration.

The talks addressed the Port's expansion plans to increase capacity, aiming to make it one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean. Officials also reviewed the port's integration into Egypt's national logistics corridors, highlighting its comprehensive multimodal transport infrastructure. This network-comprising road, river, and rail links-significantly optimizes cargo handling efficiency and movement of goods to and from the port.

Following the talks, the delegation toured the Port, observing modern operational systems and mechanisms for managing vessel and cargo movement, reflecting the level of development achieved by Egyptian ports. The visit included an inspection of the 'Tahya Misr' multipurpose terminal, as members of the delegation received detailed briefings on the terminal's advanced technical and operational capabilities, its role in supporting container and general cargo handling, and enhancing the Port's competitiveness.

The visit aligns with Egypt's vision to strengthen Alexandria Port's role as a regional hub for transport, trade, and logistics. The Ministry of Transport aims to open new avenues of cooperation with international partners, supporting the country's plans to position Egypt as a regional center for transport, logistics, and transit trade and to enhance the global standing of Egyptian ports.
