Cairo: The state-owned Engineering for Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) has signed a contract with Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) for offshore works and installations at the Harmattan gas field. This strategic agreement represents a significant step forward in the development of the gas field located in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the contract signing took place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with ENPPI as the operator of the field and PMS undertaking the execution of the offshore works. PMS, an Egyptian offshore construction and services leader, operates a fleet of 20 vessels and provides services to major clients across the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Gulf of Suez.
The agreement aligns with plans to expedite the development of the Harmattan natural gas field, following the Final Investment Decision (FID) signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Arcius International at the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026). The contract was signed by Khaled Ibrahim, Chairman of ENPPI, and Walid Hegazy, Chairman of PMS.
This collaboration underscores the confidence in PMS's technical and operational capabilities to execute strategic offshore projects, adhering to the highest safety and quality standards, as stated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).
EGYPES 2026 also featured the signing of a general contractor agreement for the project between the Pharaonic Petroleum Company (PhPC) and ENPPI. The Harmattan gas field aims to produce 150 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas and 3,300 barrels per day (bbl/d) of condensate. Studies are underway to explore increasing production to 200 mmcf/d of gas and 4,400 bbl/d of condensates, supporting domestic production goals within MoPMR's strategy.
PMS's scope of work includes installing the 1,068-ton Harmattan offshore platform, laying a 16-inch diameter subsea pipeline spanning 50 kilometers, and conducting necessary safety works. These efforts aim to accelerate production start and optimize gas resources utilization in the Mediterranean Sea.
PMS highlighted this project as a testament to its expertise in specialized offshore works, reinforcing its role as a reliable national partner in oil and gas projects. Additionally, during EGYPES, ENPPI engaged in several agreements and MoUs with local and international companies, including Wood Group, Infinity, Elsewedy Electric, and AVEVA.
