Transport Minister Stresses Need to Establish Integrated Transport, Logistics System

Cairo: Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir emphasized that the future of development in the Arab world hinges on creating an integrated transport and logistics system that bolsters supply chains, facilitates trade movement, and adapts to rapidly evolving global changes. This assertion was made during a meeting with heads and delegations of the federations of chambers of commerce, industry, and agriculture of Arab countries, attended by Dr. Hussein Issa, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister expressed his enthusiasm for participating in this high-level Arab gathering, which underscores the profound economic and trade ties among Arab states. He highlighted that Arab integration has become essential due to current challenges and the demands of sustainable development. El-Wazir assured that Egypt is fully prepared to enhance cooperation with Arab partners and to jointly implement ambitious regional projects that serve the shared interests of Arab nations, contributing to their development and prosperity.El-Wazir noted the meeting's significance in light of accelerating global economic changes and the intensifying challenges related to supply chains, energy security, and transport costs. He urged Arab countries to reshape their shared vision to strengthen economic integration and transition from coordination to genuine partnership based on mutual interests. He emphasized that international experiences have demonstrated the vital role of an advanced transport and logistics system as a determinant of economic strength, investment attraction, export competitiveness, and the expansion of regional and international trade.He highlighted Egypt's adoption of an ambitious vision in recent years to develop its transport sector comprehensively, recognizing its role as a key driver of economic development and a central axis for connecting markets. Egypt has prioritized enhancing its logistics system to support intra-Arab trade and efficiently link markets, lev eraging its strategic geographic location. This aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.The minister underscored the importance of logistics corridors, which involve transporting goods and services from production points to destinations through an integrated system of transport modes and infrastructure. These corridors connect production areas with consumption areas and ports, facilitating trade, supporting supply chains, attracting investments, and boosting economic competitiveness. Plans have been set to establish seven integrated international development logistics corridors, which will integrate Egypt into international corridors, complement the Suez Canal, and enhance Egypt's competitiveness in regional and international trade, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
