Rafah: An Egyptian aid convoy entered the Gaza Strip Monday via Rafah Border Crossing heading toward Karem Shalom crossing for delivery of aid to Palestinians, a source said Monday.According to State Information Service Egypt, the 188-truck convoy, 'Zad Al-Ezza. From Egypt to Gaza,' is carrying large quantities of humanitarian supplies, including food, flour, fresh bread, legumes, canned goods, medicines, personal care items, tents, clothing, winter supplies, and fuel. The trucks are subject to inspection by Israeli forces before entering Gaza, the source added.Israel closed crossings into Gaza on March 2, 2025, after the first phase of a ceasefire expired without agreement on an extension. It resumed heavy airstrikes on March 18 and re-entered parts of the enclave it had previously withdrawn from. Israeli forces had also barred the entry of aid trucks, fuel, and shelter materials for displaced residents and blocked heavy equipment needed for debris removal and reconstruction. Aid deliveries resumed in Ma y 2025 under a mechanism implemented by Israeli authorities and a US security firm, despite objections from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).Israeli troops later announced a 10-hour 'temporary truce' on July 27, 2025, suspending operations in parts of Gaza to allow humanitarian deliveries. Mediators Egypt, Qatar, and the US continued efforts to secure a comprehensive ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, leading to an agreement between Hamas and Israel on October 9, 2025, under a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.A second phase of the agreement took effect on February 2, 2026, after completion of prisoner exchanges and the handover of the remains of the last Israeli detainee under the first phase. The deal allowed Palestinians to enter Gaza and enabled the evacuation of wounded individuals for treatment in Egyptian hospitals via Rafah Border Crossing.
