Cairo: The Egyptian tourism landscape has demonstrated resilience in the face of regional geopolitical volatility, solidifying its position as a global safe haven for international travellers. Mohsen Ash-Allah, Head of the General Union of Tourism and Hotel Workers, confirmed that the sector achieved a milestone in 2025 by welcoming 19 million international tourists, representing a 21-percent growth rate that significantly outperforms the global average.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this momentum aligns with Egypt's ambitious strategic vision to attract 30 million visitors annually by 2030. International confidence in the Egyptian market remains high, as evidenced by the unprecedented turnout of 300 Egyptian exhibitors at ITB Berlin 2026 and the decision by global airlines to utilize Cairo International Airport as a regional hub, all without incurring additional insurance premiums typically associated with regional tension.
Parallel to this growth, the industry is undergoing a structural transformation centered on sustainability and digital modernization. Currently, 44 percent of Egypt's hotels have transitioned to eco-friendly operations through the efforts of the national workforce, while the Grand Egyptian Museum has established itself as a premier global landmark, attracting 15,000 visitors daily.
Internally, the labor sector is preparing for a digital revolution as the upcoming 2026 union elections will be fully digitized to eliminate bureaucracy and ensure data transparency. While the Union continues to prioritize the protection of workers' rights through successful legal and amicable settlements, the focus remains on maintaining a balance between labor welfare and the operational stability of Egypt's hospitality infrastructure.
