Egypt Condemns Attacks on Kuwaiti Consulate and Gulf Energy Facilities

Cairo: Egypt denounced the storming and vandalism that targeted the headquarters of the Consulate of the State of Kuwait in the Iraqi city of Basra, considering this a flagrant violation of the sanctity of diplomatic and consular missions. A statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates expressed complete rejection of such acts of sabotage, which are inconsistent with international law.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt emphasized the necessity of protecting and securing diplomatic and consular missions and premises, and safeguarding their security in accordance with the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations. The targeting of civilian facilities in Qatar and Bahrain was also denounced as a violation of the sovereignty of these states.

Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with and support for the sovereignty, security, and stability of the Gulf states. It expressed hope that President Trump's announcement of suspending military operations for two weeks would provide an opportunity for a permanent cessation of all unjustified attacks on the Gulf countries.

Egypt stressed the necessity that any upcoming agreement to end the war should address security concerns and respect the sovereignty, unity of territory, and territorial integrity of the Arab Gulf states, in accordance with the principles of international law and good neighborliness.
