Egypt: Egypt welcomed the announcement of US President Donald Trump this evening regarding the approval of a two-week suspension of military operations in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt considers this US step a significant and positive development toward achieving the desired de-escalation, containing tensions, and safeguarding the security, stability, and resources of the peoples of the region and the world at large.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt asserted that the suspension of military operations by the US, along with the Iranian side's responsiveness, represents a crucial opportunity that must be seized to create space for negotiations, diplomacy, and constructive dialogue. Egypt has consistently advocated for resolving disputes through peaceful means and avoiding the use of force, contributing to reducing escalation, ending the conflict, and achieving regional and international peace and stability, while sparing the peoples of the region and the world further suffering, the statement said.
Egypt stressed the importance of building on this step through full commitment to halting military operations and respecting freedom of international navigation. It also reaffirmed its support for all initiatives aimed at achieving peace and security and confirmed its continued intensive efforts, alongside Pakistan and Turkey, to work with regional and international partners to enhance security and stability in the region.
Egypt underscored the importance of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan, rejecting any aggression against them. It highlighted that their security and stability are closely linked to Egypt's own and that any arrangements resulting from upcoming negotiations must take into account the legitimate security concerns of the Gulf states.
In a phone call early on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, between Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, Abdelatty expressed deep appreciation for this important US step, which provides an opportunity for diplomacy and the launch of a serious negotiation process between the US and Iran to resolve outstanding issues. For his part, Witkoff lauded Egypt's sincere efforts, alongside Pakistan and regional partners, to reach a ceasefire and initiate a negotiation process.
