Cairo: Minister of Justice Mahmoud Helmy el Sherif engaged in discussions with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support Elizabeth Spehar on enhancing cooperation in the areas of rule of law and peacebuilding. The meeting was held on the sidelines of a UN-related gathering focused on justice institutions in peacekeeping missions.
According to State Information Service Egypt, el Sherif emphasized the ministry's commitment to preparing judges for international missions and updating the national database of qualified judicial experts in accordance with international standards. He highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to share legal expertise with developing countries.
El Sherif also noted the importance of expanding women's participation in the judiciary, including their involvement in international assignments. Spehar acknowledged Egypt's significant judicial experience and its role in supporting UN peace efforts, expressing a keen interest in further collaboration.
Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation through training programs, technical exchanges, and joint efforts in areas such as financial and cybercrime.
