Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad announced on Sunday, April 19, 2026, the opening of applications for the fourth phase of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP).According to State Information Service Egypt, NISGP is a pioneering national model designed to support innovative solutions that promote environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life across Egypt's governorates. The minister highlighted that the launch of this fourth phase builds on previous successes and underscores the state's commitment to supporting climate action and advancing sustainable development at the local level.The initiative targets various segments of society through six key categories: large projects, medium-sized projects, small local projects, startups, women and climate change, and sustainability and community-based initiatives that are non-profit. The initiative has become a crucial tool for supporting the green economy by encouraging innovation and empowering yout h, women, and the private sector. This is in alignment with the ministry's 2026-2030 vision, which focuses on smart environmental governance, digital transformation, sustainable resource management, and boosting the local green economy.The minister also emphasized the need for governorates to coordinate closely with the ministry's contact points to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of projects. A large-scale promotional campaign will be launched to raise awareness about the initiative. This will be done through official governorate pages and in coordination with universities, the National Council for Women, and the private sector, aiming to generate media momentum, engage citizens, and encourage innovative ideas.
