Rio de janeiro: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Mr. Yamando Orsi, the President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The meeting took place on July 7th, 2025, with Madbouly representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the 17th edition of the summit.According to State Information Service Egypt, both leaders expressed mutual appreciation for the long-standing bilateral relations between Egypt and Uruguay, which date back to 1932. They emphasized the importance of enhancing these relations across various areas of mutual interest. Prime Minister Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi's greetings to President Orsi and emphasized the significance of increasing high-level visits to boost momentum in bilateral relations.The discussions also covered Egypt's efforts in the Gaza Strip and ongoing communications by President El-Sisi to achieve a ceasefire in the region. President Orsi commended Egypt's role in promoting peace, security, and stabil ity in the area, particularly in facilitating a ceasefire in Gaza.Both parties expressed a desire to strengthen joint cooperation and bilateral trade in fields such as construction, infrastructure, and pharmaceuticals, given the expertise of Egyptian companies in these sectors. They also discussed increasing trade in livestock and agriculture and expanding cooperation to include fisheries, tourism, oil and natural gas, and green hydrogen.
