Planning Minister Discusses Strategy with Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics


Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Ahmed Rostom, met with Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Eng. Akram El-Gohary, at the agency’s headquarters. The meeting focused on discussing CAPMAS’s work strategy for the coming period, preparations for the 2027 General Census of Population, Housing, and Establishments, and the agency’s ongoing work as the primary source of official data and statistics. Senior officials from both the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and CAPMAS were also present.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Rostom commended CAPMAS for its vital role in providing and verifying data and statistics, which are crucial for informed economic decision-making and contribute to shaping development policies and improving services for citizens. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting CAPMAS and strengthening its information infrastructure. Dr. Rostom added that the next phase requires decisions based on accurate information, which is what CAPMAS is responsible for providing to ensure swift and precise decision-making.



Rostom emphasized the importance of utilizing information technology and developing work processes to guarantee rapid data acquisition and the necessity of linking data with the labor market and wages. The Minister of Planning and Economic Development stressed the importance of implementing presidential directives to compile employment data, assess labor market requirements, and identify the skills needed to enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and inform labor policies in the coming period.



For his part, Head of CAPMAS Akram El-Gohary explained the agency’s role in preparing and issuing official statistics and coordinating among all state bodies. El-Gohary also discussed ways to modernize and develop statistical legislation, in addition to its role in serving the sustainable development process and supporting the implementation of development projects.
