Banha: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh affirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the dates sector and maximizing Egypt’s massive production capacities, noting that it offers promising opportunities to boost exports as Egypt leads the world in dates production.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this statement was made during the minister’s inspection of El-Tahan dates processing and packaging factory in Banha’s investment zone. The visit was part of a broader tour led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and attended by several ministers and officials. The minister highlighted that enhancing the added value of dates through expanded manufacturing instead of raw exports is strategically necessary. Egypt produces over 1.8 million tons annually, representing about 19% of global production, underscoring the country’s leading position in the industry.
During the tour, the Prime Minister and the Investment Minister received a briefing on the production lines at the El-Tahan factory, which spans 1,080 meters and employs 200 workers. The factory’s annual production stands at 1,160 tons, averaging 96 tons monthly. This includes 41.6 tons of date molasses and 55 tons of stuffed dates per month.
Farid emphasized that the government is acting under political leadership directives to support this crucial sector by creating an attractive business environment and providing the necessary facilities to boost production and exports. The minister concluded by expressing openness to all proposals that could help develop production and export processes, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian products in international markets.
