Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met with Rawad Halabi, Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) office in Cairo, to discuss strengthening co-operation and review the progress of joint development projects implemented in several governorates. During their meeting, Farouk emphasized the partnership between Egypt and the World Food Programme, describing the UN agency as a strategic partner in supporting food security.
According to State Information Service Egypt, several ongoing projects carried out in co-operation between the Ministry and the WFP were reviewed. Farouk stated that the Ministry's current priority is to improve the income of smallholder farmers by encouraging modern agricultural practices that boost productivity. He also highlighted the importance of developing supply chains and providing technical support to farmers.
Farouk added that the Ministry is focused on promoting economic empowerment in rural areas, particularly for women and youth. Discussions included successful initiatives aimed at enhancing the ability of small farmers to manage climate change impacts and expanding the use of solar-powered systems in agriculture.
Halabi praised the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts and reaffirmed the WFP's commitment to strengthening co-operation with Egypt. She expressed the WFP's interest in expanding joint projects to include agricultural innovation, digital technologies in agricultural extension, and climate change adaptation to help farmers address environmental challenges.
