Doha: The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, has strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack that targeted residential headquarters in Doha, housing members of the Hamas Political Bureau. This attack, which took place on September 9, has been labeled as a breach of Qatar's sovereignty and a violation of international law.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized Qatar's appreciation for the solidarity displayed by Arab and Islamic countries, along with friendly nations in the international community, in response to the attack. In his remarks at a preparatory meeting of Arab-Islamic foreign ministers for an emergency summit, he described the aggression as an act of arrogance that threatens regional stability and undermines efforts for peace in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister highlighted the attack's violation of international law, humanitarian values, and diplomatic norms, citing the loss of life and civilian casualties as evidence of Israel's disregard for international standards. He called for accountability, urging the international community to move beyond silence and inaction, which he argued emboldens Israel's continued aggressive behavior.
Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to protecting its sovereignty and national security. He pointed out the violation of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter by Israel's actions and stressed the need for a unified Arab and Islamic response to this dangerous precedent. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to mediation and peaceful conflict resolution, emphasizing that the pursuit of peace is a strategic choice for Qatar.
In his address, Sheikh Mohammed also underscored the necessity of holding Israel accountable for its actions against the Palestinian people and insisted that peace in the region is contingent upon the recognition of Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha echoed Qatar's sentiments, expressing solidarity and emphasizing the need for international accountability. They highlighted the importance of Qatar’s mediation efforts and condemned the international community's inaction, which they argue has facilitated continued Israeli aggression.
The emergency summit, set to continue in Doha, aims to address these issues and strategize on measures to hold Israel accountable for its actions, as well as to support the Palestinian cause and regional stability.
