GCC Secretary-General Commends Joint Statement on Sudan Conflict

Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi welcomed the joint statement issued by the quadripartite meeting of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States regarding the conflict in Sudan. Al-Badawi praised the principles contained in the statement, which emphasized respect for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the statement called for an immediate ceasefire, facilitating safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid throughout Sudan, protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law, and transitioning to a comprehensive and transparent political process. This process should lead to the formation of a civilian government with broad legitimacy that reflects the Sudanese people's aspirations for security and stability.

The Secretary-General affirmed the GCC states' full support for these international and Arab efforts. He expressed the Council's readiness to cooperate with various partners to enhance the prospects for lasting peace, alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, and ensure the preservation and stability of Sudanese state institutions.
