PM Congratulates Workers on Labor Day, Reviews Key Political, Economic Developments

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly extended congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Egyptian workers nationwide on the occasion of Labor Day, praising their vital role in driving production across all sectors.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a Cabinet meeting at the New Capital, Madbouly expressed the government’s appreciation for workers’ dedicated efforts, describing them as a cornerstone of progress supporting state plans to boost economic growth, reduce the import gap, and increase exports to achieve comprehensive development goals.

The premier also reviewed key presidential activities, noting President El-Sisi’s participation in the consultative meeting hosted in Nicosia, Cyprus, which brought together Arab and European leaders along with EU officials. He said the participation reflected Egypt’s regional and global standing and recognition of its efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore stability.

Madbouly highlighted the president’s bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the gathering, including talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, which culminated in signing a joint declaration to upgrade bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. He also pointed to President Sisi’s meeting with Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the Russian President and Chairman of the Maritime Board, where both sides affirmed commitment to advancing strategic partnership agreements and enhancing coordination.

The prime minister further noted the president’s inspection tour of construction works at the Pyramids metro station in Giza, part of Phase I of Cairo Metro Line 4, expected to be operational in the first half of 2028 with a capacity of about two million passengers daily, integrated with the 6th of October monorail under the state’s sustainable transport plan. He also referred to the president’s meeting with Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi to support cooperation in education and curriculum development.

On the government front, Madbouly reviewed outcomes of his recent tour of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, where nine new factories were inaugurated with total investments of $182.5 million, creating over 1,300 jobs. He affirmed that Egypt continues efforts to localize industries and attract investments, particularly within the SCZone, which offers multiple incentives for investors.

Madbouly also addressed developments of the ongoing regional crisis and its economic repercussions locally and globally, noting that the government is closely monitoring the situation through the central crisis management committee. He said recent decisions included intensifying market oversight to ensure the availability of goods at reasonable prices, canceling earlier restrictions on shop closing hours, and studying a national initiative to promote solar energy installations in factories and homes, especially alongside plans to localize solar component manufacturing. The committee, he added, will continue meeting to assess developments and take necessary measures.
