Planning Ministry and Green Climate Fund Discuss Collaboration for Egypt’s Green Transition

Cairo: The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Cairo: The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development engaged in discussions with a delegation from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to explore avenues for enhancing cooperative efforts aimed at advancing Egypt's green transition. These efforts align with Egypt Vision 2030 and focus on supporting collaboration under the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting included notable participants such as Tareq El-Shaarawy, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations, Mona Essam, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Affairs, and Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects. The GCF delegation comprised Catherine Koffman, Regional Director for Africa, and Gabriel Boc, Regional Director for North and Central Africa.

Shaarawy emphasized the ministry's dedication to reinforcing cooperation with the Green Climate Fund, highlighting the fund's pivotal role in providing support to developing countries heavily impacted by climate change. He pointed out the GCF's significant experience in financing green transition projects across Africa and other developing regions, stressing the necessity for practical and implementable solutions to address these challenges effectively.

Essam provided insights into Egypt's initiatives to incorporate the climate dimension into national development priorities, treating it as a cross-cutting issue across critical sectors such as health, education, water and sanitation, and transport. She explained the ministry's strategy to align development planning with financial planning, emphasizing the importance of diversifying and expanding financing instruments.
