Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, with Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Cairo Eric Oschlan to discuss advancing joint cooperation in key development priorities, particularly job creation, skills development, and support for entrepreneurship.According to State Information Service Egypt, the Minister underscored the strength of Egypt's partnership with the ILO, describing it as a strategic collaboration built on a shared vision to stimulate economic growth and generate sustainable employment opportunities. He highlighted the importance of engaging the private sector as a central partner in improving citizens' quality of life and achieving inclusive and balanced development.Rostom noted that ongoing global and regional challenges continue to place pressure on emerging economies, requiring flexible and forward-looking policy responses. In this context, he affirmed the government's commitment to advancing its econo mic reform programme, aimed at strengthening resilience and enhancing the economy's ability to adapt to external shocks, drawing on lessons learned from previous global crises.He further emphasized that maintaining macroeconomic stability remains a top priority, alongside supporting key productive sectors such as agriculture and industry. The government, he added, is implementing proactive measures to address inflationary pressures and ensure the availability of essential resources, while benefiting from international best practices to boost the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy. He reiterated that the private sector plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable economic stability.For his part, Mr. Oschlan commended the Egyptian government's efforts to mitigate the impact of successive global and regional crises, noting that these measures reflect a strong commitment to safeguarding citizens' welfare and maintaining labour market stability.He also reaffirmed the ILO's commitment to supporting Egyp t's national employment agenda through strategic partnerships focused on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship development, and the modernization of labour policies. Particular emphasis, he noted, will be placed on promoting green jobs and advancing digital transformation to align with evolving global economic trends.
