New york: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, engaged in discussions with Yvette Cooper, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom across political, economic, trade, and investment sectors, with the aim of establishing a Strategic Partnership. He conveyed anticipation for the upcoming visit of the UK Prime Minister to Egypt, viewing it as an opportunity to build on the positive developments between the nations, as evidenced by ongoing communications between Egyptian and British leadership.
The Minister also acknowledged the UK's recent recognition of the State of Palestine, labeling it a significant message to the Palestinian people and a reaffirmation of the international community's support for their legitimate aspirations. He advocated for wider international recognition of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as a path to regional security and stability. Furthermore, he called for decisive international intervention to halt Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories and to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by ensuring relief and medical aid reach those in need.
On the topic of Iran's nuclear program, Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's role in facilitating an agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency in Cairo, aimed at resuming technical cooperation. He stressed the importance of diplomacy in fostering a climate conducive to regional security and stability, noting Egypt's efforts to ease tensions and lay the groundwork for renewed negotiations.
