Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated the government's commitment to implementing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to restore Egypt's textile industry to its former glory, citing its strategic importance to the national economy and local industrial development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting with Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimi, Madbouly emphasized the government's aim to enhance Egypt's competitive edge in global textile markets. This effort involves adding value to Egyptian cotton and boosting export capacities.

The meeting also included Ahmed Shaker, Executive Managing Director of the Holding Company for Cotton, Spinning, Weaving and Garments. Shimi reported on the progress of the sector's restructuring, noting that the first phase of the modernization plan has been fully completed, with 76% of the second phase implemented.

Shimi stated that the second phase is expected to conclude by October, with the final stage scheduled for completion by April 2026. He highlighted ongoing efforts to involve the private sector in the development process, pointing out a comprehensive reform strategy across all subsidiaries. This strategy addresses technical, financial, administrative, and marketing aspects, while exploring investment opportunities and public-private partnerships. The goal is to create sustainable jobs, reduce unemployment, attract investment, and optimize the use of idle assets.
