ERC Dispatches Over 5,000 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza with 175th Convoy

Cairo: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has announced the departure of its 'Zad Al-Izza . from Egypt to Gaza' convoy on its 175th day, which commenced on Monday morning. The convoy is transporting a substantial load of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, underscoring the ongoing commitment to support the Palestinian enclave.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ERC stated that the convoy consists of more than 5,060 tons of humanitarian assistance. This includes vital supplies such as food baskets, flour, relief materials, and fuel essential for operating hospitals and critical facilities. This effort is part of the ERC's continuous role as a national mechanism for coordinating aid deliveries to Gaza.

In addition, the ERC has provided crucial winter supplies, comprising approximately 20,795 winter clothing items, around 2,305 blankets, and 11,850 tents to offer shelter to those impacted by the ongoing conflict. The organization has maintained a consistent presence at the Gaza border since the onset of the Israeli war, ensuring that the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side remains accessible. This steadfast commitment has enabled the delivery of over 900,000 tons of humanitarian and relief aid, facilitated by more than 65,000 dedicated volunteers.

The situation in Gaza remains tense, with Israeli forces having closed critical crossings since March 2, 2025, following the breakdown of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire was violated with significant airstrikes on March 18, 2025, leading to renewed ground operations in previously evacuated areas. Israeli authorities have also restricted the entry of essential humanitarian supplies and equipment necessary for rebuilding efforts.

Despite these challenges, aid deliveries resumed in May 2025 through a mechanism overseen by Israeli authorities and a US security firm. This arrangement faced criticism from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which argued it contradicted established international protocols. Nevertheless, the Israeli occupation army announced a 'temporary truce' for 10 hours on Sunday, July 27, 2025, facilitating the delivery of aid to parts of the Gaza Strip.
