Egypt Electricity and Petroleum Ministries Collaborate to Enhance Efficiency and Localize Industry

Cairo: Egypt's electricity and petroleum ministers have agreed to enhance their cooperation to improve power generation efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and localize energy-related industries. This agreement was announced by the government in a statement following a meeting between Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy in the New Administrative Capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers discussed various projects designed to transfer technology, expand downstream industries, and maximize returns from Egypt's mineral and natural resources. The strategy includes improving the efficiency of power plants, reducing fuel use per kilowatt-hour, and ensuring the stability of the national electricity grid during periods of high demand. Additionally, the officials committed to integrating 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity into the grid before the summer.

The collaboration involves coordination with the Nuclear Materials Authority and the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA) to develop manufacturing capabilities for photovoltaic panels and semiconductors, produce pure silicon from quartz, and expand geothermal power projects among other joint initiatives.

Minister Karim Badawy highlighted that the petroleum sector is focused on securing adequate natural gas supplies for power plants and has implemented contingency measures to address the increased demand expected during an unusually hot summer. Meanwhile, Minister Mahmoud Esmat reiterated the government's dedication to diversifying energy sources, expanding renewable energy generation, and deploying storage technologies to maintain grid stability.
