Egypt-Japan Trade Value Increases to $386 Million in First Five Months of 2025: CAPMAS

Cairo: Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed that the value of trade between Egypt and Japan increased to $386 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $342.7 million during the same period in 2024, marking a 12.6 percent increase. According to State Information Service Egypt, the value of Egyptian exports to Japan reached $27.5 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $31.7 million during the same period in 2024, a 13.3 percent decrease. Meanwhile, the value of Egyptian imports from Japan reached $358.5 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $311 million during the same period in 2024, a 15.2 percent increase. The most important commodity groups that Egypt imported from Japan during the first five months of 2025 included cars, tractors, and motorcycles, valued at $102 million. Boilers, machinery, equipment, and mechanical tools were worth $81.2 million; rubber and its products accounted for $24.9 million; ele ctrical machinery, appliances, and equipment were valued at $24.7 million. Other imports included iron or steel products at $18.8 million, iron and steel at $17.8 million, optical instruments and devices at $17 million, pharmaceutical products at $14.1 million, plastics and their products at $11.4 million, and organic chemical products at $7.8 million. The statistics showed an increase in the value of Japanese investments in Egypt, reaching $73.2 million during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, compared to $68.4 million during the 2022/2023 fiscal year, a 7 percent increase. The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Japan reached $5.6 million during the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to $5.1 million during the fiscal year 2022/2023, an increase of 11 percent. Remittances from Japanese workers in Egypt reached $1.3 million during the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to $1.1 million during the fiscal year 2022/2023, an increase of 18.2 percent.
