Egypt Engages India’s BDR Pharmaceuticals for Local Cancer Drug Plant

Cairo: Egypt is in discussions with India's BDR Pharmaceuticals to establish a plant for producing biologic and cancer medicines, the health ministry said on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with BDR Chairman Dharmesh Shah and Gamal El-Leithy, head of Egypt's Pharmaceutical Chamber and chairman of Future Pharmaceutical Industries, to review plans for the project. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported high-cost medicines and ease pressure on foreign currency resources.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the health minister emphasized the government's dedication to localizing pharmaceutical production and transferring advanced technologies to ensure the provision of affordable, safe, and high-quality drugs for patients. He directed that the project be expedited with a clear timeline for completion, as stated in the official announcement.

BDR officials underscored the company's expertise in oncology and biologics manufacturing in other markets. They noted that their use of advanced technologies has consistently improved healthcare outcomes and expanded access to medications at competitive costs.
