Cairo: Egypt commended the Arab League Council's adoption of the resolution titled "A Joint Vision for Security and Cooperation in the Region" during its 164th session held in Cairo.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the resolution, proposed as a joint Egyptian-Saudi initiative, reflects a unified Arab consensus to establish a coherent framework for regional security and cooperation, based on international law and tailored to address the region's pressing challenges.
In a statement issued Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Egypt made it clear that no party should be permitted to dominate the region or impose unilateral security arrangements that undermine the security and stability of its states. Regional security hinges on strict adherence to the principles set out in the resolution, including respect for state sovereignty, the inviolability of territorial integrity, non-interference in domestic affairs, and the rejection of military force outside the bounds of international legitimacy.
The resolution affirms the legitimate right of Arab states to establish guiding principles for regional arrangements. It also unequivocally recognizes their right to present a vision for a security and cooperation system based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, adherence to international law, the peaceful settlement to disputes, and ending the occupation is the only way to lay the foundations for a just and lasting peace.
Egypt stated that the adoption of the resolution reflects strong Arab leadership in establishing clear principles to enhance regional security and cooperation. It sends a clear message that regional stability can only be achieved through respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the rejection of coercive policies and unilateral actions, the end to occupation, and the establishment of political and economic prospects that ensure lasting peace and prosperity for the peoples of the region.
Egypt reiterated its commitment to cooperating with Arab countries and international partners to turn the resolution into real actions. These actions aim to boost regional security, support a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, and promote a regional framework based on mutual interests, respect for international law, and the equal sovereignty and security of all states.
The statement also called for continued pressure to adopt firm measures to stop Israeli violations. It also stressed that the ongoing stalemate in the peace process continues to fuel instability, extremism, hatred, and violence at the regional and international levels.
