Egypt and Cyprus Discuss Strengthening Ties and Regional Stability in High-Level Talks

Cairo: Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty praised Egypt's historical ties with Cyprus during a meeting Friday with Cypriot House of Representative President Annita Demetriou, emphasizing the importance of expanding parliamentary cooperation and bilateral engagement.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty welcomed increasing high-level visits, including Demetriou's February trip to Cairo, and called for enhanced collaboration across sectors such as energy, investment, labor, tourism, IT, health, and agriculture. He also highlighted the outcome of the Egypt-Cyprus-Greece Economic Forum which took place on January 2025 in Cairo.

Abdelatty underscored the strategic importance of energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean, including electricity interconnection projects, and stressed Egypt's commitment to advancing a labor agreement with Cyprus to include sectors like tourism and construction.

On the Gaza crisis, Abdelatty briefed Demetriou on Egypt's ceasefire mediation efforts and plans for a post-conflict recovery conference. He reiterated Egypt's rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and Israel's expansion of military operations in Gaza and settlement activities in the West Bank.

Demetriou reaffirmed Cyprus's commitment to strengthening ties with Egypt, recalling her recent meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and voicing support for regional stability and international law.
