Cairo, Bucharest Deepen Academic, Research Ties

Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa and Prince Radu of Romania explored ways of boosting cooperation between the two countries on Monday, April 20, 2026. The meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters in the New Capital, focused on expanding collaboration between universities and research institutions in both nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Konsowa emphasized the long-standing ties with Romania and the strong political support driving efforts to develop Egypt's higher education system. He reiterated the Egyptian government's commitment to international partnerships with leading global universities to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices.

Prince Radu praised the deep-rooted Egyptian-Romanian ties, highlighting that 2026 marks 120 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with Egyptian universities and creating more opportunities for academic partnerships and researcher mobility.

The Romanian side announced the allocation of 35 scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year, covering both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Both sides stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations and support joint efforts in higher education and scientific research.
