EDA, EU discuss boosting cooperation

Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Tamer Essam discussed on Thursday 23/2/2023 with European Union Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger means to boost cooperation between the EDA and the EU.

This came during Essam’s meeting with the EU ambassador and his accompanying delegation in light of continuous talks between the EDA and international authorities and institutions to create partnerships that support promoting the performance monitoring level in the pharmaceutical sector.

Both sides discussed means to boost trade exchange and different mechanisms of cooperation to support institutional capabilities and share technical expertise.

Egypt working with development partners to implement Palestinian National Employment Strategy

Minister of Manpower Hassan Shehata said that Egypt will work with the development partners to implement the Palestinian National Employment Strategy, asserting that Egypt’s connection with and support for the Palestinian cause have always been firm.

This came on Thursday 23/2/2023 during the inaugural session of a high-level conference on supporting the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy in Jordan in the presence of development partners, including Arab manpower ministers, representatives of the Arab Labor Organization and the International Labor Organization, the UN agencies and international financial institutions.

The minister asserted the importance of this strategy and its noble goals in addition to its role in boosting the information system of the labor market, supporting employment services, linking social protection with activating the market, boosting institutions of dialogue and social security and improving the systems of education and technical and vocational training to cope with the needs of the labor market.

Palestinian Labor Minister Nasri Abu Jaish asserted, in his word, that the Palestinian government is working via this strategy along with a package of political procedures and work programs to up employment rates through creating more job opportunities.

Manpower Ministry offering 1,500 jobs for disabled people

The Ministry of Manpower announced organizing an employment forum in Cairo to provide 1,500 job opportunities for disabled people.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said the event will be held next Thursday under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to help disabled people get involved in the labor market and have a decent life.

The job opportunities are offered in 74 private sector companies in different domains, including tourism, environment, security, finance, ads, and others.

Egypt FM underlines importance of expanding cooperation with Morocco

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry underlined on Thursday 23/2/2023 the importance of expanding cooperation with Morocco in a way that serves the two countries’ interests.

Shoukry made the remarks during talks with Naam Miyara, Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councilors, currently on a visit to Egypt.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry began the meeting by lauding the brotherly and distinguished relations binding Egypt with Morocco, reiterating the role of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral ties.

He underlined the importance of boosting cooperation between the legislative institutions in the two countries to face challenges besetting them.

He shed light on challenges facing the region at the present, underlining the importance of preserving State institutions for being the safety valves of the stability and security of any country.

He reiterated Egypt’s readiness to share its experiment in all domains with Morocco.

The Moroccan official expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pioneering role in the Arab world.

He said kingdom is interested in fostering cooperation with Egypt within the framework of the African Union.

He reiterated Morocco’s support of Egypt’s water security and rights.

PM chairs meeting of economic group

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Thursday 23/2/2023 chaired a meeting of the economic group to discuss a number of key economies files, Cabinet Spokesman Nade Saad said.

The meeting was attended by Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdallah, Petroleum Minister Tareq el Molla, Supply Minister Ali Moselhi, Planning Minister Hala el Saeed, International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Public Business Sector Minister Mahmoud Esmat, Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir and Tourism Minister Ahmed Eissa.

The meetings reviewed a number of details and figures concerning resources and uses of foreign currency in the past period as well as the state’s efforts to increase the stock of hard currency through enhancing exports.

The ministers also pointed out at the state’s efforts to provide more incentives for investment to encourage local and foreign investors, adding that 13 companies, working in the fields of agriculture, food, industry, medical, construction and technology, had recently received the smart golden license cards.

Local development minister, Korean delegation discuss joint cooperation fields

Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna asserted the depth of Egypt-South Korea relations which have witnessed a big leap in the era of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and former South Korean president Moon Jae-in.

This came during the minister’s meeting with a South Korean delegation of senior diplomats for talks on means of bolstering cooperation in the various fields.

During the meeting, Amna pointed out to the Egyptian government interest in drawing on the expertise of South Korea in the economic and development fields especially training and qualifying of local development cadres, recycling of solid wastes as well as modern technologies.

He also praised the participation of a high-level delegation from South Korea in the UN Climate Summit which was held in November in Sharm El Sheikh.

The Korean delegation, on their part, commended Egypt’s hosting of the UN Climate Summit and the great success of its proceedings, noting that South Korea is deeply interested in cooperating with Cairo in the field of recycling of solid waste, reduction of carbon emissions, green projects as well as the dependence on clean and renewable energy.

EBRD pledges more support to Egypt’s economy, gov’t IPOs to send positive message to business community

Deputy President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Alan Pilloux asserted that EBRD would continue to back the Egyptian economy in a number of key sectors, noting that the private sector is benefiting from 80 percent of the total portfolio of the bank’s funding.

This came during a meeting held Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and the EBRD’s deputy-president and his accompanying delegation, who are currently visiting here. Minister of International Cooperation Rania El Mashat, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Heike Harmgart, Director of EBRD’s Office in Egypt Khaled Hamza and a number of the bank officials attended the meeting.

The meeting covered a number of joint work files and aspects of cooperation.

During the meeting, Pilloux voiced thanks and appreciation for Madbouli who was keen to meet with EBRD’s officials during their current visit to Egypt, reflecting the interest of the Egyptian government in cooperating with EBRD.

Pilloux also said that there is a need for expanding the scope of cooperation with Egypt in view of the new policies of the Egyptian economy and the recent initiatives which required more cooperation, citing the government Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and the national Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) Program.

He also explained that EBRD’s work in Egypt is not only focused on supporting the private sector, but the bank has plans to support the projects implemented by the government, praising the mega projects and roads network which have recently been established nationwide.

The EBRD’s deputy president also discussed the bank’s plans to support the new and renewable energy projects, the green hydrogen projects in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). He asserted that the Egyptian government could depend on the bank’s support to this important sector.

Madbouli, on his part, said that the government is looking forward to more fruitful cooperation with EBRD especially the file of climate change, energy as well as water desalination projects.

The premier also asserted that the Egyptian state was keen on proceeding with its support to the private sector, noting that the recent measures of IPOs of 32 companies as well as the State Ownership Policy Document which gains backing of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Mashat, on her part, said Egypt is the first destination of EBRD’s investment with total investments of dlrs 1.3 billion.

She also highlighted Egypt’s strategic relations with EBRD which were reflected in promoting development in several sectors especially the small and medium-scale projects, combating climate change as well as women empowerment and employment opportunities.

EBRD has been active in Egypt since 2012. During this time, the Bank has rapidly scaled up its activities, with a total portfolio of more than 10 billion euros covering around 160 projects in the fields of finance and banking, agricultural industries, manufacturing, services as well as infrastructure projects of energy, water, sanitary drainage and transport.

Egypt pays great attention to empowering women: Trade min.

Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir said the Egyptian state pays great attention to empowering women which is clearly manifested in the decisions taken by the Egyptian government to create a suitable environment for female entrepreneurs to boost their involvement in all the sectors of the Egyptian economy.

This came in a word read out by Samir on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in the inaugural session of the 8th Annual Conference of Businesswomen of Egypt 21 (BWE 21) held at the premises of the Arab League in the presence of Minister of Social Solidarity Niveen el Kabbag and head of the BWE 21 Yomna el Sherdy.

Samir said the studies showed that empowering women economically has positive impact on gross economy as women’s participation in workfield contributes to increasing the productivity and boosting economic growth.

Samir asserted the importance of rallying efforts with the partners in the private sector, civil society and international organizations to build a more sustainable future for business in Egypt.

He said the Egyptian government is aware of the importance of diversifying trade to achieve sustainability, asserting that the government is working on creating business environment capable of appreciating important contributions of female entrepreneurs in the sectors of agriculture, manufacturing and services.
