360 Scholarships to Accelerate Sustainability Education for Young Women Worldwide

NEW YORK, Feb. 4, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Available to young women (ages 15-17.5) around the world, applications are now open for the AFS Global STEM Accelerators: a full-scholarship virtual exchange program in sustainability, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), and positive social impact.

Global Stem Accelerators’ voices echo the desire for a brighter and more inclusive future.

The program is run by AFS Intercultural Programs, a global non-profit intercultural exchange network with more than 75 years’ experience in international education. AFS received Diversity Abroad’s 2022 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion in International Education (EDIIE) Award for the Accelerators’ successful inauguration. 20% of the scholarships will be allocated specifically for refugees and girls from displaced populations, whether from war, violence, or natural disaster.

The Accelerators program is part of a broader five-year scholarship initiative aimed at reaching 5,000 young people worldwide, with a focus on supporting women. The initiative is funded by bp, and the curricula is co-developed by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy. AFS conducts outreach with support from SPARK, an international NGO that creates pathways for young people, particularly women and refugees, in fragile communities worldwide. The program also provides internet and technical support for users in need.

Previous scholarship awardees reflect the diversity the program was designed to embrace: 20% were refugees or displaced persons; 82% identified as People of Color; 51% were from low-income households; and 10% are set to be the first in their families to graduate from high school.

AFS scholars’ voices echo the desire for a brighter and more inclusive future: “I am from a traditional society where girls don’t even have the right to go to school,” says Harira, a participant from Afghanistan. “Participating in this program is my first step toward achieving my goal to explore the world and become influential in improving sustainable societies.”

The Accelerators program culminates with scholars developing social impact capstone projects and presentations that offer potential solutions to real-world challenges, with an emphasis on sustainability. Participants earn the Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact, awarded by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania.

WYF to hold Saturday press conference to announce 5th edition details

The World Youth Forum (WYF) is expected to hold on Saturday a press conference to announce the details of the 5th edition of the forum.

A number of Egyptian and international institutions, the UN, Egyptian and foreign media representatives are set to attend the press conference.

In a press release, the WYF said the 5th edition of the forum comes after four previous successful rounds, stressing the importance of the forum as a platform that gathers youths from all over the world to discuss youth-related issues, as well as exchanging cultures and expertise within the framework based on promoting peace, creativity and development.

On April 25, 2017, a group of young Egyptians presented an initiative at the National Youth Conference in Ismailia city to engage in dialogue with youth around the world.

On July 24, 2017, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi officially responded at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina during the National Youth Conference in Alexandria, launching the 1st World Youth Forum (WYF), which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh city in November 2017.

PM receives his Romanian counterpart at Cairo International Airport

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli received Saturday 04/02/2023 at Cairo International Airport Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, who had arrived on a two-day official visit to Egypt.

The Romanian premier is leading a high-level delegation including a number of ministers and state officials.

The Egyptian and Romania prime ministers are scheduled to chair plenary talks to discuss several files in different economic fields.

They will also review ways of promoting joint cooperation.

An economic forum will be held Sunday to bring together a galaxy of Egyptian and Romanian ministers and officials concerned.

PM: Romanian PM’s historical visit to Egypt to contribute to boosting bilateral ties

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Saturday 04/02/2023 welcomed the historical visit of Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca to Egypt.

Madbouli said the Egyptian government is appreciating a move by Romania to receive Egyptian students, who were forced to leave Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian military operation and help them return home.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Ciuca, who is currently visiting Egypt, Madbouli said that the Romanian premier’s historical visit to Egypt will contribute to boosting relations between the two countries.

The Egyptian prime minister asserted his country and Romania have deep and profound ties, dating back to 117 years.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the talks with Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca tackled some issues to foster economic relations between the two countries and the joint trade exchange, whose volume reached more than one billion dollars last year.

Madbouli added he is pleased to cooperate with Romania in the field of fertilizers, petrochemicals and other goods Egypt is exporting to the country.

The Egyptian premier asked his Romanian counterpart to increase the volume of importing grains, saying Romania is a basic producer of grains in Europe and the world at large.

The Romanian premier promised to boost this field to up trade volume.

Madbouli said he is looking forward for the convocation of the joint committee and conference for probing some scientific and technical topics, slated for this current year in Bucharest.

The two sides are making necessary preparations for holding a forum for businessmen from Egypt and Romania, according to him.

For his part, Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca asserted his visit to Egypt is aiming to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ciuca said his country is looking forward to promoting ties with Egypt on all fronts.

The Romanian premier said his talks with Madbouli tackled some issues of mutual interest and all future capabilities and potentials to enhance joint ties.

It is necessary to probe all mechanisms for further trade relations between both countries, according to him.

“We will exert our utmost efforts to avoid a food crisis, and we will seize every opportunity to secure all Egyptian needs and make up for any shortages,” the Romanian premier said during the joint news briefing with Madbouli.

Ciuca also pointed to a joint business forum his country will host later this year to discuss how to promote every aspect of economic cooperation during the technical consultations.

He noted that the talks will also cover how to bolster Egyptian-European ties for regional integration between Europe and Africa, a matter of critical importance to Bucharest.

The Romanian prime minister said today’s talks with Madbouli had also covered how to exchange energy and capacity-building support to make the best use of green hydrogen as a clean source of energy.

In addition, it has also been agreed to share expertise in government digital transformation implementation strategies, Ciuca pointed out, noting that these talks provide a good chance to bolster bilateral ties under the current political leadership in both countries.

Finally, Ciuca pledged that he will spare no efforts to execute all the decisions agreed today with his Egyptian counterpart, highlighting his country’s willingness to maintain mutual cooperation at all levels.

PM: Egypt, Romania enjoy profound ties

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted that Egypt and Romania have deep and profound ties, dating back to 117 years.

Discussions dwelt on ways of boosting economic ties between Egypt and Romania within the upcoming period, added Madbouli.

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Romania reached dlrs 1.1 billion during last year, he further said.

This came in a statement issued by the Cabinet’s Media Center on the speech of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ciuca during the press conference held Saturday at the Cabinet’s premises.
