Cairo: 'With the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) set to officially open on November 1, 2025, Egypt is preparing to welcome world leaders and distinguished guests to the monumental cultural and civilizational landmark,' Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said. Overlooking the Pyramids of Giza, the GEM is considered Egypt's gift to the world and a symbol of the country's rich heritage. Its inauguration is expected to mark a historic milestone.
According to State Information Service Egypt, describing the GEM as a gift to the world is not an exaggeration, Madbouli said, noting that the legacy of ancient Egyptian civilization is recognized as global heritage under UNESCO's cultural and natural heritage standards. The announcement coincides with the opening of the "Treasures of the Pharaohs" exhibition in Rome, Italy, underscoring the universal value of Egypt's heritage. The GEM will not only serve as a museum and archaeological destination but also as a center demonstrating Egypt's national determination.
Its collection includes an unparalleled number of ancient Egyptian artifacts, a grand entrance hall, and state-of-the-art exhibition spaces. The museum opened nearly two years after its foundation stone was laid, marking a key achievement for the country in realizing major national projects. As the GEM prepares to host heads of state and dignitaries, Madbouli emphasized that Egypt aims to once again captivate the world, following high-profile cultural events such as the Pharaohs' Golden Parade in April 2021 and the reopening of the 3,000-year-old Avenue of the Sphinxes in Luxor in November 2021.
While authorities are responsible for organizing the inauguration, every Egyptian citizen plays a part in presenting the country's ancient civilization to the world, Madbouli said. Madbouli welcomed all guests to Egypt, underlining the country's rich history, cultural treasures, and its leading role as a center of global heritage. The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will not be merely a cultural celebration added to the record of national events, but rather a comprehensive national project that connects science, tourism, public health, and sustainable development, said Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
Abdel Ghaffar wrote that this monumental cultural edifice reflects the spirit of a new Egypt that strives to link its ancient history with a future built on innovation and renaissance in all fields. The museum's inauguration will mark a national turning point that restores Egypt to its rightful place on the global civilizational stage, he explained. The museum is not only a platform for displaying archaeological and historical treasures, but also a symbol of the integration of national efforts to improve services and infrastructure in the surrounding areas, create job opportunities for youth, and support the local economy by boosting tourism and cultural investment, the Egyptian official further mentioned.
'The Egyptian people as a whole, along with all those around the world who care about human heritage, await this historic event with pride and enthusiasm-for it carries messages of hope and achievement that affirm Egypt's ability to implement major projects with international standards,' Abdel Ghaffar said. 'The real challenge after the inauguration lies in transforming this national and popular momentum into a sustainable impact that serves scientific research, the economy, and society-making the Grand Egyptian Museum a global center for knowledge and cultural interaction, and a beacon of culture and development for Egypt's future,' he added.
'With steadfast determination, our country moves forward under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, towards writing new chapters in the history books, in shining and noble letters, to tell future generations how our beloved country managed to continue working, building, and achieving, writing history amidst storms, difficulties, and a turbulent world at all levels, with a region in turmoil, where events have shaken the fates of neighboring countries and the peoples of the region,' said Chairman of the National Press Authority (NPA) Abdel Sadiq el Shorbagy. Shorbagy emphasized that as Egypt lives in the atmosphere of victory during the month of October, the month of triumphs, and with the achievements made in the recent period, the country is preparing to inaugurate the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in early November.
This historic, global, and cultural giant event will add new pages to Egypt's and the world's history, illuminating the path of human civilizations and positioning Egypt in the place it deserves as a major and influential country, with a cultural and civilizational legacy that commands admiration, reverence, and respect from all, Shorbagy said. The Grand Egyptian Museum represents Egypt's journey of construction and achievement, a monumental cultural beacon of the world that underscores the state's commitment to preserving its heritage and presenting it to the world in a distinguished form that combines the authenticity of history, its antiquity, and the beauty of modern design and ingenuity, he added.
He further noted that the museum's development has been a continuous process, marked by intense efforts and dedication, starting with site preparation in 2005, followed by construction beginning in 2016, and culminating in the museum's trial operation in October 2024, which earned worldwide praise and numerous international awards. Preparations for this important historical and global event are in full swing, with significant international attendance expected, he said. The Grand Egyptian Museum, Egypt's gift to the world, is the largest museum dedicated to a single civilization. It offers visitors the opportunity to journey through over 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian history.
