Cairo: A rare total lunar eclipse will turn the moon red over Egypt and some Arab countries on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, said Mohamed Gharib, Solar Research Professor at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG). Speaking with Extra News channel, the professor detailed that the partial phase of the eclipse will commence at 7:27 p.m., followed by the total eclipse at 8:31 p.m. when Earth positions itself between the sun and the moon, resulting in the phenomenon known as a blood moon.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Professor Gharib explained the blood moon phenomenon further, noting that shorter blue wavelengths of light are typically scattered by the Earth's atmosphere, allowing longer red wavelengths to pass through, which accounts for the red hue of the moon.
He emphasized that the lunar eclipse will be more visible in open areas and encouraged citizens to witness this astronomical event.
