President El-Sisi Discusses Educational Reforms with Prime Minister and Education Minister

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif to review the current state and future plans for Egypt's education sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, Spokesman for the Presidency, stated that the President is closely monitoring the progress and consistency of the educational process. This comes at the start of a new academic year, marked by an unprecedented attendance rate of 87.5%. The meeting highlighted significant improvements, including reduced student density and a resolved teacher shortage.

The President was informed about advancements in educational curricula, with 94 courses updated across all grade levels. The Ministry of Education formed a committee, including teachers and academics, to ensure the quality of these revisions. Additionally, a training program for teachers on the new curricula, in partnership with UNICEF, is underway, incorporating programming and Artificial Intelligence as part of the curriculum development.

President El-Sisi emphasized the need to enhance educational systems to meet the digital age's demands and align educational content with labor market needs. The discussion also covered the fiscal year 2025-2026 investment priorities, focusing on expanding competitive educational institutions and developing technical education through private sector collaborations to establish applied technology schools.

The President was briefed on the National Program for Developing Reading and Writing Skills for Primary School Students, a collaboration between the Ministry and international partners. This initiative targets struggling students by improving teachers' skills, initially covering 10 governorates, 2,000 schools, and one million students.

The meeting also reviewed the Egyptian Baccalaureate system's implementation, which is new this year. The Minister noted that the system provides a more flexible educational framework, and enrollment has reached 88% of students. The Egyptian-German Schools initiative was also discussed, with plans to open 100 new schools, offering comprehensive education from kindergarten to secondary school.

President El-Sisi highlighted the importance of focusing on modern technology-related fields, such as Artificial Intelligence and digitization, to drive development. He directed an increase in public investments in education and emphasized ongoing improvements to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, integrating technology as a fundamental educational component.

Furthermore, the President stressed the importance of addressing teachers' welfare, announcing a teaching incentive of 1,000 EGP starting November 2025, and prioritized improving teachers' economic conditions as a top agenda in the coming phase.
