President El-Sisi and Norwegian Prime Minister Discuss Middle East Peace Efforts

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr. Jonas Gahr St¸re. The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, reported that the Norwegian prime minister congratulated President El-Sisi on the success of the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit and expressed appreciation for Egypt's efforts to reach an agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, he expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to Norway to participate in the summit.

According to State Information Service Egypt, President El-Sisi welcomed the Norwegian prime minister's participation and emphasized the value of close cooperation between Egypt and Norway, particularly in supporting regional stability. The President praised Norway's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and its recognition of the Palestinian state in May 2024, affirming the two-state solution as a fundamental pillar for achieving peace.

The Norwegian prime minister reiterated his country's support for humanitarian action in the Gaza Strip and the initiation of a political process towards the two-state solution. He acknowledged Egypt's pivotal role in de-escalating the regional conflict and emphasized the importance of involving Palestinians in the governance of the Gaza Strip, excluding Hamas.

The discussion highlighted the importance of fully implementing the provisions of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, including maintaining the ceasefire, facilitating humanitarian aid, and accelerating reconstruction efforts. President El-Sisi outlined Egypt's intention to host the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, seeking Norway's cooperation in preparation and participation.

The Norwegian prime minister welcomed continued consultation with Egypt, emphasizing Norway's commitment to collaborating on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The call also reviewed the progress in bilateral relations, with both leaders expressing satisfaction with their cooperation, particularly following President El-Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024.

Both sides agreed to intensify coordination and explore opportunities for joint cooperation, particularly in new and renewable energy sectors. Norway's prime minister highlighted his country's interest in helping Egypt become a hub for new and renewable energy, citing the involvement of Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt.
