Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met Monday with acting head of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Mahmoud Karem to review proposed amendments to the law governing the council, aiming to align it more closely with the Paris Principles on national human rights institutions.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the proposed changes are currently under legal review by the Prime Minister's advisory body before being submitted to parliament. Madbouly emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the NCHR's independence and legal guarantees as stipulated by the constitution.
The meeting also addressed recent progress in Egypt's human rights landscape and efforts to integrate the national human rights strategy with the broader Egypt Vision 2030 development plan.
Karem outlined the council's proposed amendments to its founding law (Law No. 94 of 2003, amended in 2017), intended to enhance its independence and effectiveness. He noted ongoing consultations with government legal advisors to finalize the draft of the suggested amendments.
