New delhi: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to enhancing its relations with Brazil during a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' gathering in New Delhi. Abdelatty highlighted the strategic partnership agreement signed by Egypt and Brazil in November 2024 as a foundation for future collaboration.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed the importance of building on the historical relations and mutual respect between the two nations, underscoring the strong political ties between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Brazilian President Luiz In¡cio Lula da Silva. He stressed the need for increased consultation and coordination in various fields to further cement these ties.
Abdelatty mentioned that Egypt prioritizes strengthening economic, trade, and investment relations with Brazil. He pointed out the growth in bilateral trade and the rise in Egyptian exports to Brazil. The minister also discussed the proposal to establish a Brazilian logistics center with grain storage silos in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, aiming to transform the area into a regional hub for re-exporting Brazilian goods.
The discussion also covered regional developments, with Abdelatty detailing Egypt's initiatives to reduce regional tensions. He called for ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US to reach an agreement that would help solidify the ceasefire and end the conflict.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira acknowledged the positive trajectory in the bilateral relations and recognized Egypt's significant role in promoting regional stability. He expressed optimism about continuing to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in the future.
