New delhi: Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a meeting with Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi. During the meeting, which took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Abdelatty congratulated Phuangketkeow on his recent appointment in the new Thai government and expressed Egypt's interest in enhancing bilateral relations with Thailand across various sectors.According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted the increasing frequency of high-level visits between the two nations. He noted Thailand's royal participation in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, including the attendance of a Thai princess, as well as a senior Thai trade delegation's visit to Egypt in February 2026. These interactions underscore the growing diplomatic engagement between the countries.Abdelatty emphasized the need to boost economic cooperation by increasing trad e exchange and encouraging Thai companies to invest in Egypt, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. He pointed out Egypt's strategic position as a regional manufacturing and export hub catering to African and global markets, identifying sectors such as food industries, tourism and hospitality, energy, electric vehicles and batteries, rubber manufacturing, and automotive spare parts as promising areas for Thai investment. He also reviewed the incentives provided by the Egyptian government to attract foreign investors.The discussions also touched on enhancing collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's commitment to deepening ties with the bloc. On regional matters, he reiterated Egypt's stance on supporting peaceful conflict resolution in line with the UN Charter and international law. Abdelatty outlined Egypt's continuous efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East, uphold regional stability, and ensure international freedom of navigation .In response, the Thai foreign minister commended the robust relations between Egypt and Thailand. He expressed gratitude for Egypt's cooperation with Thailand, particularly in the realm of scholarships for imams, and affirmed Bangkok's dedication to expanding cooperation with Cairo across multiple sectors.
