FM Meets Senior Advisor to U.S. President on Arab, Middle Eastern Affairs

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on Arab, Middle Eastern, and African Affairs, as part of the ongoing consultations on regional developments in light of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. The meeting covered recent developments in Sudan and joint efforts to contain the crisis there.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for the Sudanese people and stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to reach a resolution that would end the conflict and the worsening humanitarian situation, while preserving Sudan's unity, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national institutions, and the resources of its people.

The talks also addressed the Libyan file, with Abdelatty emphasizing the need to preserve Libya's territorial unity, safeguard the interests of the Libyan people, and ensure a Libyan-led political process that leads to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, along with the withdrawal of all mercenaries, foreign fighters, and foreign forces within a specific timeframe, to help restore peace and stability in the country.

The discussion also covered the situation in the Great Lakes region, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's support for the agreement signed between the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda in Washington. He stated that the agreement is a positive step towards achieving peace and fostering economic development in eastern Congo. He noted that it represents progress toward a lasting peace agreement that would bolster regional stability in the Great Lakes region and contribute to peaceful conflict resolution in Africa.

Additionally, the two sides discussed joint efforts to promote sustainable peace and development in Africa, boost economic growth, and enhance stability across the continent. Abdelatty also reviewed ongoing preparations for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, during which participants will exchange views and ideas on political and economic challenges and explore ways to support African countries in achieving peace, security, and sustainable development.
